FEMA Emergency Supply List
California has its share of natural and human-caused disasters: Earthquakes, wildfires, storms, dangerous spills - even terrorist acts. A 55+ community such as Madrid Manor presents additional preparedness challenges, due to age-related mobility issues. This list of resources is by no means exhaustive, and we urge you to do your own research to stay informed.

Emergency Preparedness Starts With Education - HOA Report May 23rd 2017
In the event of a disaster, whether a major natural catastrophe or a manmade wildfire, do you know what to do? What to grab? How to evacuate your home, your neighborhood, your city? The single most important step to take in getting prepared for any sort of emergency is education.
In the past month, we have done quite a bit of work in gathering information for all the residents.
A few weeks ago, we distributed the American Red Cross Preparedness Booklet for San Diego County. If you did not receive one, there are some available in the office. This is the single most important booklet that a San Diego County resident can own, as it is full of important and useful information for dealing with many of the issues around handling emergencies. It’s an interactive booklet which asks you, the resident, to research and provide information relevant to your situation. Please use it.
On Tuesday, May 9th, our committee teamed up with Perry’s Neighborhood Watch/Crime Watch presentation with the Sheriff’s office, and presented our first Emergency Preparedness seminar. We brought in Ricardo Moran, Red Cross Regional Manager for Preparedness & Resiliency, who talked about emergency preparedness kits and a free program for replacing existing smoke alarms with new ones that feature 10-year lithium-ion batteries. 37 homeowners signed up, and the Red Cross has offered to do the entire Madrid Manor community. Please sign up today, if you haven’t already. Ask me after the meeting. The smoke alarm teams would like to come out on June 21st, 4:30 - 7:00 PM.
During the May 9th event, it became clear that many homeowners are concerned with the various types of fraud plaguing our communities, from telephone fraud to Internet scams. We are currently designing a presentation that will cover all of this.
Finally, did you know that the Vista Edco will come to your house and pick up hazardous waste for free? Just call and arrange it.
